Hondatrope
A volumetric persistence-of-vision people powered cup display
The Hondatrope is an anthropotrope – a bespoke spinning cup, akin to a children’s playground cup, surrounded by vertical LED light poles.
The Hondatrope combines the simple motion of a playground cup with ultra fast LED strips, (+1000 fps), and the inherent character of our visual perception.
The cup seats up to three people who pull on the wheel in the centre to make it spin.
As the cup spins faster, the light poles increasingly reveal a hidden garden – a multi-layered digital environment seen only by those in the HondaTrope.
This was exhibited in Hyde Park at the Sydney Festival.
